You don't get fined for expired road tax, but it's illegal to drive on the road with one. If you get into an accident, even if it's not your fault, you are still going to end up being penalized.

If your road tax expired for more than 30 days, some Insurer might require you to furnish additional documents when you apply for your car insurance.

So, when it comes to road tax, it's always a good idea to renew them early.

Hi guys! Out of curiosity, are the values depicted by this calculator accurate? A good friend of mine has a 5.5L Mercedes but he's already paying roughly RM20k annually. Based on this calculator, for that amount, the cubic capacity of the specified car has to be about 7.0L. Can someone kindly clarify the authenticity of the calculator? Thank you.

Paul, the road tax quoted by the calculator is on a yearly basis. By the way, I've just updated the calculator.

The obvious difference being for vehicles under Company, 5% service tax is levied.

And for Company vehicles, you can include the 'All Drivers' benefit for a premium of about RM50.00 to ensure anyone who drives the car is eligible to to claim during a loss without having to pay RM400 of excess. For Individual Ownership, you must add each individual drivers, with the 3rd driver costing you RM10.00 each.

any difference for the road tax for a toyota alphard 3.0 registered under individual or registered under company? What about the insurance ?

Michael: Old rate as in last year's rate? I believe that the discounted rate has been applied since 2 years back.

The status of your car registration (either private or corporate) should not have any bearings on the road tax rate. The private/corporate status would only have an impact on your insurance premium, where for corporate registered vehicles, you will be charged an additional 5% company service tax.

There's the popular RM 625 rebate, where you have to filled up a few forms at the Post Office or JPJ to be eligible for it.

I just renew my Mistushi Storm L200 model with a engine capacity of below 2499 cc for half yearly, but to my suprise the rate is the same as old rate no change. For your information this car is private register. Can you please let me know is there any rebate or any reduction on the road tax rate?
