what happens if you're signing up for credit card via a colleague and a field requires you to fill in your salary? :D

Don't sign up with your colleague, or warn her that she might need to be a full time credit card agent if she sees your salary figures!
Well, I guess there are exceptions, that's why it's called the "Rule of Thumb" and not "Rule of All Fingers".

I agree with this actually. Revealing your salary will just end up in dissapointment for either party and sometimes grow to something worse. Best is, if you are happy with what you earn, just shut the trap and work. If unhappy, bring it up with management. Simple.
